15 Months!

Avery, you are 15 months tomorrow!  Excuse me, TIME, where did you go?

Here are some things you are up to right now.

First of all, you are walking everywhere, which is quickly turning into running everywhere!  Walking has really helped you reveal so much of your personality.  You are eager to explore.  All day long, I chase you around, making sure the things you want to touch, turn upside-down, empty, and lick are safe things for you to do so.
You still love to play with Mommy's mixing bowls.  You pull them out of the cabinet by yourself and bang them on the floor, slide them around, put them inside each other, and lick them.
When we say "smile", this is what we get!  You bring so much joy into our lives every day, it's almost too much to bear sometimes.
You are getting more comfortable with your Bompa (above) and your PawPaw.  You are always a little more weary of men, but you're learning that they are good men to love!
I love being able to see you interact with your grandparents on a regular basis.  I hope they are always special people in your life.
Gramma is the next best substitute for Mommy!  I suppose that's because Gramma "feels" a lot like Mommy.
When you wake up from your nap and I ask you if you want to play, you always respond with, "Ball!"  And it's the first thing you go for.

You love to feed your baby doll her food and give her medicine.  You give your babies lots of love throughout the day, too.
You are in love with books, and always have been.  It's so fun to watch you read to yourself.  Your favorite place to read your books is in your glider chair in your bedroom.  At least twice a day, you make me follow you in there and you pat the seat and sign "help" to get  you up there and give you some books.  Anytime I ask you if you want to read some books, you respond with an emphatic, "Ohhh!"  It's your way of saying, "Yes!"

If you and I are playing in the living room, you constantly pick out a book, bring it over to me and back yourself up onto my lap.  It melts me.
 There's that "smile" again!
Today, I was watching you read 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed and you were "reading" each page to yourself, complete with finger-pointing when the doctor says, "No more monkeys jumping on the bed!" and touching your head when a monkey bumps his head.  You are so smart.
Some other words you say are: Buh-bye, hello, Ra-Ra (Riley), more, no, oh me! (oh my), oh bye! (oh boy), Dada, Mama, nite-nite

You have started grabbing your diaper and whining when you have a dirty diaper and need changing.  Potty training might be around the corner for us!

When I ask you if you're hungry, you sign "eat" and run to your high chair.  When I ask you if you're thirsty, you find your sippy cup of water and go to town on it.  I'm pretty sure you understand 90% of what I say to you.  You are able to follow pretty much every command we give you.
You still fall a lot throughout the day, but you always pick yourself back up again.  You have determination that can't be beat.  You love to walk around with your hands clasped behind your back and you look so proud while you're doing it, like, "I am so grown up, I can walk with my hands behind my back!"

Avery, you are such a gift to Daddy and me.  We have plans to give you a little brother or sister someday, but if for some reason we couldn't, we would be so grateful that we have you!  Your happiness and love for life are such a testament to me of how I should live each day.  I love you, baby girl.

Bookworm...

Since I am a teacher, it is so fun to see Avery so interested in books.  She has been since she was aware that they even existed!

She is getting more and more interactive with them when we read to her.

When we read board books to her, her ultimate goal is to get that book in her mouth!

She does love to look at the pictures, too!
She loves the bright colors.
She loves to make her books her own.  With drool.
And she has to be restrained from diving head-first into the book!
Here, it's like she's thinking, "What does that brown bear see?"
No matter what, all books are delicious.

My heart is happy.

Read This...

I just finished this book last night and it has made it into one of my top reads.  I highly recommend it!

I am working my way through all the books that I got for Christmas.  Next book that I'll start tonight:

Books...

I saw this Book Meme on a blog and thought it'd be a fun way to tell you about some books I've read.

1. One book that changed my life: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith. If you haven't read this book before, go to the bookstore and buy it. Today. So good.

2. One book that you’ve read more than once: The Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. If you haven't read this one, do it. It's even better than the movie, but I think the movie (with Winona Ryder) is really good.

3. One book you would want on a desert island: Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. It took me about 2 months to read this book because it is ENORMOUS, so it'd be good to pass the time on a desert island and whenever I would read it, I'd escape inside of it. Very well done.

4. One book that made you laugh: I really can't think of a humorous book I've read! I guess I like the more serious reads. But, I laugh hysterically when I read BigMama's blog and The Meanest Mom's blog.

5. One book that made you cry: Lucky by Alice Sebold. It's a memoir about when she got raped in college. The first chapter had a serious effect on me. I sobbed like a baby.

6. One book that you wish had been written: I don't really understand this question. I have no wishes for books. I just like them.
7. One book that you wish had never been written: The Mermaid Chair, by Sue Monk Kidd. Just a horrible book. Ridiculous plot, weak characters, corny. Stupid. I read it because I had read The Secret Life of Bees by the same author and it was really good, so I had high expectations.

8. The book that you are currently reading: Gilead by Marilynne Robinson. Stephen gave me this book and another one that goes with it for Christmas. They have the same sort of story plot, but each is told from a different character's point of view. I'm just starting it.

9. One book that you have been meaning to read: Marley & Me by John Grogan. I saw the movie over Christmas break and it was all I could do to keep from moaning in the theater because I was crying so hard.

10. Books you don’t enjoy: Non-fiction. I think they're boring, unless they're written like a story. I tried to read 1776, but it wasn't story-like enough for me.

11. Book you remember as a real page-turner: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Neffeneggar (or something like that). You HAVE to read this book! It's not scary - just weird. But not like bad weird. I really liked it a lot.

12. Non-fiction books you have enjoyed: The Diary of Anne Frank. It reads like a story, that's why.

13. Children’s books your family has loved: Green Eggs & Ham by Dr. Seuss. I love this book because I remember it was the first book I ever read on my own. I remember sitting on the living room couch when we lived in the yellow house in Omaha, in my pajamas, reading it cover to cover all by myself. And then I ran to tell my mom!

Colorado...Part 7...Auntie Kelsi

One afternoon, I came downstairs to find this:
And my camera just snapped away...
Turn the page, Aunt Kelsi!
As a teacher, I LOVE it when babies begin to read...
Yes, Hannah is already a reader....
She knows how to hold the book, which way to turn the pages, and she studies the pictures...
Aunt Kelsi is F-U-N!!!
She listens to you, as you read the words...
She laughs and interacts with the books...
What a good reader!
Read it again, Aunt Kelsi! I love books!
